Measuring jets with ALICE
The rate of jets expected in ALICE was determined using PYTHIA. We first calculated the inclusive jet cross section in pp̄ collision at √ s=1.8 TeV and compared it to the data of the D0 experiment[1]. As shown in Fig. 1, the PYTHIA calculation, up-scaled by K=1.5, describes the data reasonably well. The calculation was performed in three runs differing by the value of the CKIN(50) parameter whic...
متن کاملALICE experience with GEANT4
Since its release in 1999, the LHC experiments have been evaluating Geant4 in view of adopting it as a replacement for the obsolescent Geant3 transport MonteCarlo. The ALICE collaboration has decided to perform a detailed physics validation of elementary hadronic processes against experimental data already used in international benchmarks. In one test, proton interactions on different nuclear t...
متن کاملHow to Sync with Alice
This paper explains the sync problem and compares solutions in Firefox 4 and Chrome 10. The sync problem studies how to securely synchronize data across different computers. Google has added a built-in sync function in Chrome 10, which uses a user-defined password to encrypt bookmarks, history, cached passwords etc. However, due to the low-entropy of passwords, the encryption is inherently weak...
متن کاملHeavy ion Physics with ALICE
ALICE will study the physics of the strongly interacting matter produced in nucleus-nucleus collisions at the LHC where the formation of the Quark Gluon Plasma is expected. The experimental setup, the capabilities of the detector, and a few selected heavy-ion topics will be presented and discussed. Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) predicts a transition from a stable state of matter formed by hadron...
